Development & Management Team

Encircle is design led. Our team was established in 2007, and has been working successfully together for the past two and a half years. It comprises of design engineering, interaction design, textile science, business development and management, marketing, clinical research, and specialist medicine. It is a team designed to deliver.

CEO - Andy Wynne

Andy WynneAndy Wynne has over twenty years experience in the textile industry. His experience includestechnical textile development, operations, sales and marketing, and business development. Andy was the Managing Director of Team Puma (a division of Gelvenor Consolidated Fabrics) for several years and more recently was the CEO of DesignTex, a partnership between industry, local government, development agencies and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise. During his time at DesignTex the company launched the Kapinua Brand and clothed the New Zealand Olympic Team in leisure wear at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. In 2008, Andy was appointed Chief Executive of Levana and The Merino Company.

Business Development - Timothy Allan

Qualifications: BDes (Hons)

Timothy AllanTimothy has been focussed on research and development and the implementation of design research and life cycle thinking in commercial product development. Timothy has worked in commercial, government and educational domains within New Zealand and Internationally.
Timothy has contributed significantly to the adoption and uptake of sustainable design practice within the New Zealand design industry and the broad application of life cycle thinking within business and product development.
Timothy founded Locus Research in 2002, and has been the business development manager for Encircle since the project commenced.

Textile & Production - Marie Snell

Qualifications: BCApSc; BCom

Marie SnellMarie graduated with a Bachelor of Consumer and Applied Science (Clothing and Textile Science) from the University of Otago in 2006, and joined Levana Textiles as a product development technician. Over the last two years Marie has advanced the textile development programme at Levana and has recently been appointed Development Manager. Marie leads the Encircle production programme.

 

 

Research & Development Director - Blythe Rees-Jones

Qualifications: BDes (Hons)

Blythe Rees-JonesBlythe has a Bachelor of Industrial Design with honours from the Wellington School of Design. Blythe currently runs the design team at Locus Research and is highly experienced in directing research and development targeted at delivering new creative insights, greater market opportunities, and product/service leadership through effective application of design.

This year Blythe was awarded the New Zealand Merino Biella Masters Scholarship for his design involvement with Merino.

 

Design Engineer - Rogier Simons

Qualifications: BDes (Hons)

Rogier SimonsRogier has been involved in the development of products and systems for a variety of specialist fields such as medical equipment for the private sector, sporting equipment for professional athletes, cooling and evaporative fan systems and personal care. Rogier graduated with a Bachelor of Design with honours from the Wellington School of Design. Rogier's exposure to a wide range of industries has helped him develop a sound technical knowledge of product development.

 

Clinical Support & Testing - Eduardo Izurieta

Qualifications: DM

Eduardo IzurietaDuring the last 7 years Eduardo has been studying medicine at the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina. In 2008, Eduardo joined the Encircle team while carrying out a general surgery elective at Palmerston North Hospital. In February 2009, Eduardo completes his studies to become a doctor and his skills will be an asset to the clinical development of the programme.

 

 

Medical Advisor - Dr Richard Beasley (Physician)

Qualifications: MBChB; FRACP; DM; FAAAAI; FRCP; DSc

Dr Richard BeasleyIn 2008, Professor Richard Beasley received the Insignia of a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to medical research. A medical researcher for more than 20 years, he is a member of the World Health Organisation Global Initiative on Asthma Advisory Committee, the Steering Committee for the International Study of Asthma & Allergies in Childhood and has been consulted on a number of occasions by the United States Food and Drug Administration. He was professor and head of the Department of Medicine at the Wellington School of Medicine from 1993 to 2001 and subsequently established the Medical Research Institute of New Zealand (MRINZ). Professor Beasley has been involved in deep vein thrombosis (DVT) research for many years and is a clinical advisor to Encircle.

 

Medical Advisor - Dr Justin Roake (Vascular Surgeon)

Qualifications: MBChB; FRACS; DPhil; FRCS; FRACS.(Vasc)
Dr Justin RorkeProfessor Justin Roake is a specialist vascular surgeon with the Christchurch Vascular Group. Born in Christchurch and educated in New Zealand, Professor Roake is a graduate of University of Otago (MBChB 1981) and Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (1989) and Royal College of Surgeons of England (1996). He has a doctorate in immunology from Oxford University (DPhil Oxon 1993).

Professor Roake undertook specialist training in vascular surgery in Oxford between 1989 and 1997. He was appointed as Professor of Surgery and Head of Department, Christchurch School of Medicine, in 1997 and is a renal transplant and vascular surgeon at Christchurch Hospital. He is the Clinical Director of the Department of Vascular, Endovascular & Renal Transplantation Surgery.

Professor Roake has research interests in the biology of vascular disease and is a clinical advisor to Encircle.
